Sails Hand-Sewn for the Schooner Anna Møller

The film shows the manufacture and fitting of sails for the schooner Bonavista, where the ship receives new sails for both masts and all stays.

Only sailmaking work is shown in this film. The focus is on the 90 m² schooner sail, a gaff sail, produced using traditional methods with reference to Jens Kusk’s handbook on practical seamanship. The sail panels are cut as they were 100 years ago, and all key details are hand-sewn. Only the panels themselves are machine-stitched using a so-called lockstitch machine.
