New Copper Roof on the Concert Hall

DR’s former Radio House on Rosenørns Allé was designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1936 and was ready for occupancy in 1943. The architecture reflects Lauritzen’s exemplary ability to unite aesthetic beauty with functional solutions.

The concert hall’s unconventional trapezoidal shape is acoustically driven and is also covered by a double-curved roof. Due to economic and material shortages during the war, the roof was originally clad with roofing felt. In the mid-1950s, it received an additional copper covering, which unfortunately did not last long due to faulty construction.

In this film, we follow the creation of an entirely new copper roof in 2018–2019 — set to the music of Beethoven and Dvořák.
